The Opportunity Starts at Home multi-sector affordable homes campaign sent a letter on January 26 to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy urging them to: 1) provide $30 billion in emergency rental and utility assistance; 2) provide $28 billion in new funding for Housing Choice Vouchers; 3) provide $8 billion in new funding for Emergency Solutions Grants to address the needs of people experiencing homelessness; 4) provide $44 billion for the national Housing Trust Fund for purchasing and converting hotels and motels currently sheltering people without homes into permanent supportive housing; and 5) further extend, strengthen, and enforce the national eviction moratorium in response to the pandemic.
