NLIHC’s Advocates’ Guide 2020 Now Available Online, April 13

NLIHC released online its Advocates’ Guide 2020: A Primer on Federal Affordable Housing & Community Development Programs, a comprehensive resource for advocates and others involved in many aspects of affordable housing and community development.

The Advocates’ Guide is NLIHC’s resource about most federal affordable housing programs and policies pertaining to low-income people. The Advocates’ Guide, written by NLIHC staff and other leading experts in the field, contains summaries of housing and community development programs as well as housing policy tools and other information. It contains material that can help advocates deliver an informed advocacy campaign to public officials, both in legislative and executive branches of government. New in this year’s Advocates’ Guide is information about HUD Secretary Ben Carson’s proposed rule that would gut the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing rule, ways the current Administration attempts to significantly reduce access to affordable housing for low-income immigrants, and the increased inequities in the mortgage interest deduction after the enactment of the 2017 tax law.

The Advocates’ Guide is an invaluable resource for anyone involved in or concerned about affordable housing and community development. A little rusty about a certain HUD program? Look it up in the Advocates’ Guide to refresh your familiarity with that housing program. Seasoned advocates can get updated on the previous year’s changes and threats to programs and policies. The Advocates’ Guide is a great primer for people new to affordable housing
