The Opportunity Starts at Home campaign and the Legal Action Center (LAC) – a member of the campaign’s Roundtable – have released an article addressing the connections between affordable housing and harm reduction, health care reform, and the criminal legal system. In 2021, the Black Harm Reduction Network distributed a survey to 230 harm reduction, criminal legal system, and health care reform advocates and stakeholders and found that housing was one of the top issues for advocates. The new article shares the results of the survey, takes a closer look at the affordable housing crisis, provides policy recommendations, identifies advocacy opportunities, and shares examples of efforts to increase access to housing for justice-involved populations.
